What Makes Glamour Sexy?

The female body is extremely unique and beautiful but it is still very confusing as to why some things appear to be sexy and some things are not. The one part of the body that is probably the most complex is the mind because it controls and interprets every aspect of the body and provides the emotional catalyst that is needed to interpret what makes glamour photography sexy…..but what are the triggers?. Each one of us has a different interpretation as to what makes a photograph sexy but there are some proven ingredients that I feel can add to the overall sexiness of an image.

Our imagination….our senses….and our emotions…. all play a critical part in evaluating the sexiness of a woman but there are still other factors that leads to the overall sexiness of a picture. When we create a scene which portrays a “jaw dropping” element, our body triggers a mental response that lets us know that we have successfully created a shot that is truly sexy. Some of the best known scenes that can trigger such a response can involve water, oil, heat, cold, fear, wardrobe (and lack of wardrobe) but the overall success of the image involves the believability of the moment and the natural beauty of the woman. Controlling the mood with precision lighting accentuates the glamour of the woman which sets the stage for a woman to look and feel extremely sexy. When the lighting and location is right a woman will begin to feel sexy. Her eyes will express the mood that you are trying to achieve and the true magic of a glamorous photograph will soon transpire. The sexiest and most successful glamour photographs usually involve letting your imagination to fill in the blanks because the mystery of suspense is also a very sexy trigger to achieving a successful image.

Sexy Bridal Glamour

Weddings are such a beautiful event but today’s brides are becoming much more creative and a little bit more uninhibited when it comes to giving personal gifts to the groom.  Many women are getting tired of just giving cuff links or Superman underwear as a honeymoon gift so many new brides are opting for a brave and maybe a little bit more controversial gift and have decided to surprise their future husbands with intimate photos of themselves.  These Sexy Bridal Glamour photos are usually not very explicit and tend to be just a little suggestive but the groom is always surprised.  Some brides prefer to have their photos taken by women photographers but others feel comfortable enough with themselves to go to a male photographer.  I have had calls from brides that have requested a woman photographer but many of the brides that I speak with actually prefer being photographed by a male photographer because they feel that a male photographer knows how to make them feel sexier but I do have a female makeup artist that is on set for the entire shoot.  I always encourage that a bride should take along another woman (maybe even a bride’s maid) as an escort (or for encouragement) to any shoot of this kind especially if you are not familiar with the photographer.  When I photograph a Bridal Glamour sessions, I always try to  put myself in the groom’s shoes  to try to anticipate what he would like to see or would not like to see in his bride’s photo book because if he is not  entirely happy with the images, the marriage and honeymoon may get off to a very rocky start.  It is definitely not worth causing any unnecessary grief over some sexy photos so it is up to the bride to know whether or not this is something for her groom.  I photographed a beautiful Bridal Glamour session for a bride and just before she had ordered her pictures the groom had watched a series on Bridal Glamour photo shoots and happened to commented that he thought that it was very tacky for a woman to have such pictures taken…. so the bride canceled her order and her images never left my studio.  As you can see, a sexy Bridal Glamour session is not for everyone but they can be a very unique and personalized gift for that special groom!

Glamour Model Agencies

Online model agencies have proven to be a great opportunity for some glamour models that were previously excluded from the traditional fashion agency markets but with this tremendous opportunity also comes a very high risk of danger.  Models are quickly discovering that screening potential clients is not always a pleasant experience and can sometimes even become a scary event.  Never….never….never meet a client for the first time by yourself and always schedule your initial meeting in a very public location.  Just because someone is looking for a model doesn’t necessarily make them legitimate…..even some of the most experienced fashion agencies have trouble screening potential clients…. so please be careful.

There are a number of very reputable online modeling agencies that provide glamour models with an opportunity to land modeling gigs and to display their portfolio without having to pay agency commissions.  Each online agency have their own style, niche and rules so it is  up to you to decide which agency is best for you.  When you sign up with an online agency you will be asked to display your images and to provide personal information for potential client to review so you will want to make sure that both your personal information and your portfolio images will be protected.

Images can be “right clicked” and stolen and may end up in ads or on other sites and just about everyone will be able to see the personal information that you publish so it is always important that you protect yourself from potential loss or danger before publishing your material.  The biggest way that you can protect your personal information is to use an alias and never…never…never publish your address or phone number and always communicate by email.

You can protect your images by making sure that they have a very obvious photographer’s watermark that would be difficult to remove and never publish any high resolution images.  Some online agencies will not allow the ability to “right click” your images so you may want to consider that when selecting your agency.  Some online agencies are free and offer a paid premium service and others are strictly paid member sites.   The advantage to the online agencies is that there is no exclusivity and there is no limit as to how many sites that you can join.  I would suggest that you limit your selection to only three online agencies so that you will be able to manage your accounts more effectively.  There are many online agencies that are available and I can supply to you a list of some of my favorites if you send me a request at:  andy@andrewwilsonstudios.com.

Glamour Pros & Cons

Glamour Modeling is very profitable and a highly visible part of the modeling world but unfortunately with all of the good comes some of the bad.  There seems to be an endless number of con artists today that are just waiting to get into a model’s wallet and pants.   When something sounds too good to be true then it probably is.  The so called “model agency”   scam seems to be the most popular rip off because they prey off of the model’s inexperience.  Their scam is to sell you classes and photography that is done in house by non-working “professionals” in the hope that they will land you that “big break”.  It is unfortunate but anyone can call themselves a model agent, scout or agency but the truth of the matter is that the scammers make their living by ripping off unsuspecting models.  A legitimate agency makes their living by taking a commission from the work that they find for their models.  They may have courses but they are taught by “working professionals” and they definitely do not have “their own photographer”!  The legitimate agency will provide to you a “list” of reputable fashion photographers to “go see” if you do not have industry-quality photos.

A Professional Fashion Photographer is only interested in getting the best shot for you and will not push into any situation that you are not ready for.  Glamour Photography is a very sexy medium and many models elect not to shoot anything that sexy and an experienced Glamour Photographer will never push a model beyond her limits.  I can never stress enough how important it is for a model to always have a friend or escort with them when meeting with a photographer that they do not know.  There are a few so-called “photographers” that get excited by taking advantage of the naive model which usually ends up crushing a model’s dream!.

How to Become a Glamour Model

Photography by Andrew Wilson StudiosGlamour Modeling is probably the most exciting and most lucrative part of the modeling profession and no matter where you turn in our world you will see photos of beautiful women in makeup ads, on television, on billboards and in magazines everywhere.  The fact that beautiful women have always been able to represent anything from jewelry to cars indicates that sex still sells and that Glamour Modeling will always have a future.

Glamour Models are typically between the ages 18 and 25 but there are many new and former models that have exceeded all expectations by creating a glamour market for all age groups.  Former Glamour Models such as Rachel Welch, Ann-Margret and Sophia Loren still have the magic ability to transform themselves and be billed as a glamour models.

A few keys of becoming and remaining “The Next Top Glamour Model” is to eat right, stay in shape, avoid anything (including some people) that will stand in your way of accomplishing your goal and dedicate as much time as you can to be in front of the camera of as many reputable photographers as possible.  When you find a photographer that you work well with then it is time to ratchet up your ability and expand on your sexiness and beauty.   It is not necessary to shoot nude photos to be a Glamour Model but sexy or implied photos greatly enhance your marketability.  I really do not suggest shooting nude photos unless that is the direction that YOU want to go.  Some of the sexiest shots that you can shoot are the ones that leave a lot to the imagination of the viewer and that make you look classy.

There seems to be even more photographers today that are more interested in trying to get women out of their clothes than expanding their photographic craft so be careful who you are working with.  When you are meeting with or shooting glamour with a unknown photographer, I strongly advise that you to take another person along as an escort.  Most legitimate photographers will welcome the escort as long it is not your boyfriend or husband.  It very difficult for a photographer to work with a Glamour  Model that brings a boyfriend,  husband or anyone else that they are intimately involved with because the model tends to pay more attention to the person instead of the camera.
